Situated about a mile from the home I grew up in, it was one of the last remaining hand-hewn wood plank bridges in the area. However, since it was old not well-maintained, the wood planks became loose. As cars traversed the expanse, the planks rattled, groaned and boomed, and created a sound like distant rolling thunder. The kids in our area called it "Rattly Bridge" or "Thunder Bridge" and the name stuck.
To this day, I still love the sound of distant thunder in the summer. I named my studio after that old plank bridge, in a salute to vintage, handmade craftmanship and that wonderful feeling of a hot summer evening's limitless possibilities.
Have you ever heard the rattle of distant thunder, and remembered those wonderful, long days of your childhood summers? ]]>
